First International Clark Marathon in the Philippines is Expected to Draw 5,000 Spectators to the Event
CLARK FREEPORT 01-05-08 - The 1st International Clark Marathon is expected to draw at least 5,000 spectators, the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) announced.
CDC said that thousands are expected to watch athletes from Malaysia Singapore, Korea, Thailand, and the Philippines compete in Clark's first ever international
marathon.
With 2,000 athletes participating in the event, Pinpin said CDC is expecting a 1:3 ratio or three spectators for every one athlete to flock to the CDC Parade Grounds on January 13, 2008.
CDC added that at least P1.8 million in cash prizes are at stake during the
international marathon under the following categories: 42 kilometers, 10k, and 5k.
The first International Clark Marathon is authorized by the Philippines Amateur Track and Field Association and sanctioned by the Philippine Sports Commission This event offers the largest cash prizes the Philippines has ever seen for a marathon, offering a total cash prize of 1.8 million pesos.
Registration fees for the categories are as follows, 42k, P500; 10k and 5k, P250.
The 1st International Clark Marathon would be held in cooperation with Clark Development Corporation (CDC), Active Asia and ABS-CBN Sports.
The 1st International Clark Marathon sets off the beginning of a series of
tourism-related events in store at the Clark Freeport.
CDC is now preparing for the upcoming "Clarksiyahan" - a "packet of activities" to
be held from February 8-10, 2008 at the CDC Parade Grounds.
Clarksiyahan would feature a drag race, quiz bee, inter-school street dancing, PEP
squad competition, locators' product selling, bikini open, and the Johnny Walker
rave party and fashion show.
Also in store for the coming New Year are the 12th International Hot Air Balloon
Festival and the final round of the CDC President's Cup Circuit Race.
